Louise Durack - Let's get moving on the Marina
Environment Louise, Luke, Ocean Reef Marina

Let's keep moving on the Ocean Reef Marina!

An overwhelming amount of people support a Marina at Ocean Reef Boat Harbour and just want the City of Joondalup to get on with the project.

Four years ago, the State Government provided the City of Joondalup 0,000 to enable them to conduct a feasibility study for the Marina.  For two years, nothing happened - until Alannah MacTiernan, Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, took up the issue and told them to get on with it.

Due to the keen interest in the Ocean Reef Marina, I have invited Minister MacTiernan to meet with local residents to discuss this project. She will discuss how the State Government will ensure that the City of Joondalup progresses the Marina as a priority.

The meeting will be at 10.30am on Wednesday 27 August 2008, at the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club, Boat Harbor Quays, Ocean Reef.

I realise that not everybody will be able to attend the forum. If you wish to receive feedback on the issues raised at the meeting, please call 9304-9681 or email louise.durack@walabor.org.au  to register your interest.

This important project will require the support of a State Government with strong and stable leadership.  Ensuring the City of Joondalup gets on with it will be my number one priority if I am elected.

Labor commits to fully fund new Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue patrol boat

Labor commits to fully fund new Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue patrol boat

A re-elected Carpenter Government will provide $360,000 to fully fund the total purchase of a new patrol boat for the Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue Group.

Premier Alan Carpenter, visiting Hillarys Marina today, also announced a significant funding boost to the Metropolitan Volunteer Sea Rescue Alliance, which not only includes the Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue Group but also Fremantle and Cockburn volunteer groups.

“Under Labor’s plan, annual funding for the Alliance will increase to $450,000 per year – an increase of $250,000 on their current annual grant.

“These groups have a record of outstanding public service for our community.

“This significant funding increase recognises the important and life saving role these volunteer groups provide in rescue operations on our coast.”

Mr Carpenter said only Labor was prepared to fully back Western Australia’s volunteer sea rescue services.

“Our commitment fully funds the purchase of a new patrol boat for the Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue Group.

“This is in stark contrast with the Liberal’s promise of just $150,000 – which also relies on a significant contribution from the City of Joondalup ratepayers,” he said.

Mr Carpenter said both the increase in annual funding for volunteer sea rescue services and grant for the purchase of the new patrol boat would be provided in this financial year.

Strong Record On Transport Planning

ALP Ocean Reef Candidate: Strong Record On Transport Planning

“Effective public transport and vehicle access for the northern suburbs is essential for our growing area,” according to Louise Durack, the ALP’s candidate for Ocean Reef.

“In the last four years”, she said, “Labor has:
  • Funded the dual carriageway of Connolly Drive;
  • Committed to extending the northern suburbs railway to Butler by 2012; and
  • Commenced further planning for the extension of the Freeway.
Labor is making our transport network even more accessible and affordable with discount student fares. Additionally, if re-elected, Labor will deliver free public transport for Seniors on weekends and between 10am-3pm on weekdays.

Ms Durack reminds electors that Labor State Governments have built the overwhelming majority of the Mitchell Freeway and every centimetre of railway line in the northern corridor.

“Labor has the record not rhetoric on transport” she said. “The northern suburbs needs better transport and I will work tirelessly to deliver it.”

The Liberal Party can’t organise themselves, yet they want to organise our roads and public transport.
